I want to move out
How much notice to end my lease?
What the law says
- For a home lease without a written contract, or with no end date, the notice period is three months (Code civil, Art. 1736).
- A written lease can set a period longer than three months, never shorter (Code civil, Art. 1736).
Watch out for
- Re-read your contract: if it says more than three months, that period applies.
- Send your notice by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt so the date is certain.
